Redesign Goals
HAVE PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF YOGA, EASY TO SIGN UP FOR A CLASS. PORTFOLIO.
I met Danstan through a mutual friend. In the time of covid, he realized the importance of being able to still host yoga sessions online and needed a way to show what he does and have people sign up.
DANSTAN
Getting to know Danstan and his yoga journey was important to building this website. I not only wanted to show off his yoga and knowledge but the feelings that yoga itself gives to those who practice. He loved the minimalist look and had incredible photos of his journey to get to the point he’s at in his practice.
PRELIMINARY RESEARCH, SITE MAP, & SKETCHES
Danstan’s website was simple enough, only consisting of Classes, Booking, Events, Home, About, and Contact.
When looking at other wellness or yoga studio sites they all very much are about the aesthetic and showcasing not only the types of classes but also the instructors.
NOTES:
I condensed the site map down after Danstan informed me of handling the booking of classes with another app.
Aesthetic Images, Lots of info on the classes, easy to understand classes and know who the teacher is.
With research in mind, I tried t create a simple, straight to the point and aesthetic site.
BRANDING
Danstan wanted Soul Edge Yoga to feel minimalist. The branding, a minimalist font for the header, and easy to read body text felt the best. Most wellness and yoga studios use several different fonts and font weights and sometimes hard to read script text. Yoga itself is minimalist, and I wanted to convey that with the website branding. I pulled the two colors used, other than black and white, from the main hero image, and the image used to talk more about the importance of yoga.
Blue in color theory: stability, peace, tranquility, etc
Brown in color theory: resilience, security, safety, etc.

FINISHED SITE
Nearing the end of the site I added a lot more to his about page. He sent me over a portfolio site he originally had with his journey in yoga, and I wanted to edit it down and add it to his about page for those more curious about his path. His website was really fun to make, however, I realized that I’m not a big fan of the Wix platform for building websites. I had to make a lot of adjustments to the site design. However, Wix does make it very easy to set up classes (for a price) and events (free feature).
