Challenge Prompt

BY STUDENTS FOR STUDENTS

For this design challenge, the other UX designer and I broke the work up in half. I worked as a visual designer and information architect. Our idea for the app was to make finding study partners with similar study habits easier.

USER RESEARCH

In our preliminary research we created a survey for students about their basic study habits. We asked how often they study. Whether it was with/without other people. What tools they use, and how they find people to study with.

What we found out from the survey was that Over 50% of those surveyed preferred to study with others or had no preference. Many stated that studying with others can help retain information and get better clarity. And lastly that Most study 2 or more days a week in about 30 min-1 hour sessions.

Using this information the UX researcher created this user persona.

WIREFRAMES

Initially, the app design was joked about to be a tinder-like app for finding a study partner. We ran with that idea but tried to find what would be problematic with that idea.

We took away the swiping feature, opting for showing the most compatible first. Limited messaging and added an Edu email authentication
feature.

BRANDING

With the logo, I wanted to keep it small/simple enough to fit on an app icon. I ended up putting just the name on top of a book vector I created in Sketch.

For the color scheme, I went with blue and red, two of the most commonly used school colors.  I kept the typography simple with academic looking body and header text.

OUTCOME

In the end, we had a basic working version of the final design within the two days and a fully working back end (Which sadly I don’t have access to).

We won second place out of the four teams that competed.
